Sustainability Placement Experience SPE301

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of yourself, patients/clients and others within your placement agency, it is important that you follow the safe working practices of your placement agency. Where safe working practices confirm specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE; e.g., face masks/shields or other equipment), in all circumstances: - wear prescribed PPE as instructed - do not undertake or be required to undertake tasks requiring PPE if the PPE is not available for use. Any such tasks are not to proceed until required PPE is available - if you are concerned about your safety you must raise your concerns immediately with your Course Coordinator, Field Work Coordinator or Supervisor. Please review the Professional Experience Placement Procedure for more information.

Remember to stay at home if you are unwell, get tested if you have any symptoms and email COVID@utas.edu.au if you have tested positive.

Please note, enrolment in this unit is subject to an application and acceptance process which can be found on the Sustainability Placement experience website and in consultation with the Unit Coordinator.

Introduction

Immerse yourself in real-world sustainability by engaging in a sustainability-based placement experience. You will be presented with dynamic sustainability opportunities where you will apply your skills, knowledge and University studies to engage with industry and community led projects and participate in real-world sustainability solutions. 

Real-World Sustainability: Gain hands-on experience in understanding, addressing and providing sustainability-based solutions for government, private, and not-for-profit organisations while learning from professional mentors within the organisations themselves. 

Sustainability in Action: Translate University learning into meaningful change by applying sustainability frameworks and contributing to tackling complex challenges within the community and industry. 

Networking and Career Development: Build a valuable network of peers and industry contacts, enhancing your employability and career pathways within the field of sustainability and beyond. 

Whether your passion lies in environmental conservation, social justice, resilience, climate action or sustainable business practices, this placement will provide tools and techniques to empower you to drive meaningful change within your business or community.

Teaching Pattern

The workshops and associated activities will support, guide and complement the placement experience with reflective practice, foster peer to peer interaction and engagement, and introduce and evaluate key sustainability frameworks adopted by the University, including but not limited to the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) and the Sustainability Development Goals (SDG's) framework.
