Hobart, Launceston, Cradle Coast

Introduction

This unit will provide you with an understanding of financial concepts, practices and tools used to measure and assess the financial performance of a business. The unit will provide knowledge of the range business financial structures to explain the context of the business operating environment. Throughout the unit, case studies, tasks and simulations will develop your skills and knowledge to apply financial practices and processes to create financial statements and reports for business.

The unit focuses on how business managers can ensure financial sustainability of a business, the importance of quality financial information (including forecasting and risk assessment) for business success and informing business decisions.

In conjunction with the discipline theory, this unit introduces learning through practice by exposing you to authentic learning experiences. These experiences are placed at the centre of learning and assessment, so you have the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary to respond to industry, community and/or global needs.

You will be introduced to:

  • a range of methods, tools, techniques and approaches to practice
  • principles and perspectives such as values, ethics, empathy and leadership in real world scenarios
  • reflection and deliberative thinking as a means of developing knowledge, skills, attitudes and aspirations
  • ways of understanding problems and developing solutions through active inquiry
