Introduction
This unit explores how and why successful organisations develop longer term plans to guide their management. It introduces the concept of medium to long term planning and explains why business plans are formulated, and how they inform operations. You will learn about business processes, contemporary challenges, problem identification and building adaptive cultures. One of the key learning objectives in this unit, is for you to examine and be able to use a range of business planning and strategy tools. You will therefore have assessment tasks that require you to complete a detailed SWOT and use the Business Model Canvas to communicate planning considerations and priorities in the context of a particular environment/workplace. Through understanding and applying planning processes and tools you will be able to identify organisational issues and opportunities and make recommendations for improvements.
In conjunction with the discipline theory, this unit builds on concepts of learning through practice in Year 1 of study by introducing you to more complex learning experiences.
You will be introduced to:
- discipline-based skills and knowledge in dynamic practice situations. This will include authentic and purposeful, industry-related experiences
- concepts of managing effective relationships and communicating with others
- the development and use of adaptive leadership skills and how these skills relate toinnovative and entrepreneurial practice
- the nature of responsible, accountable and reflective workplace skills, and creative and critical thinking relevant to para-professional practice
