Introduction
Foundations of Literacy is designed to help you develop your knowledge and skills for the teaching of Literacy in secondary classrooms. With a focus on the nature of Literacy in Australia, and contributing to evidencing for how you will meet the relevant focus areas of the Graduate Teacher Standards (AITSL, 2014), this unit will reveal the vital role language and literacy plays in the learning process across the curriculum. You will explore Literacy throughout curriculum documents and the requirements of their implementation across different discipline areas, and contribute evidence of your capability to your portfolio. Explorations of Literacy will be related to current theories of language development and acquisition, their impact on teaching and learning, and the literacy demands/requirements of the teaching profession.
