Introduction
This unit focuses on the relationship between global citizenship and education. It is designed to extend general understandings of the global education perspective and to link these to the area of global citizenship. This unit provides an opportunity both for an examination of the conceptual aspect of global citizenship, as well as an exploration of practical issues involved in the development of global citizens through education.
In addition, the unit allows for a specialist focus on three key selected areas with the further opportunity to undertake a deeper and more detailed analysis of one topic from these areas. The selected topics include: education for global citizenship; international perspectives on education; peace, sustainability and social justice goals and their implications for education; the aims and activities of international agencies (eg UNESCO) in relation to the provisions of education globally (eg Sustainable Development Goals); and, the role of human and children's rights in educational provision.
