This unit (comprising a three-part assessment item) is specifically designed to provide practical experience related to the concepts discussed in other parts of the Master of Education (Leadership) by having students participate in professional learning activities and programs offered in conjunction with organisations in which the student is employed, or through other experiences negotiated between the student and the program leader. The unit is designed to apply "academic rigour" to the professional learning undertaken and, on satisfactory completion, will provide credit of one unit towards the Master of Education (Leadership). Access to this unit is restricted and the specific program the student undertakes will be negotiated between the program leader and the student.Note that leadership here is taken to embrace a wide range of issues relevant to organisational leaders, middle-level leaders (e.g. department heads, team leaders, coordinators and so on), and aspiring leaders, and could include topics such as aspiring leadership, coaching, mentoring, teams, strategic thinking and planning, performance management, data use for improvement, collaborative networks and community relationships. The activity may include attendance at conferences, undertaking professional learning activities, development rotations, internships or educational study visits.
