Introduction

This unit forms the first part of an independent research project on an approved topic leading to a thesis of 15,000 words or a major performance/composition project that includes a written research component of a minimum of 5,000 words contextualising the performance/composition component. The project is completed under FCA763 Major Research Project B and the total project constitutes 2x25% units. Your research project will be guided by an academic supervisor and where performances or compositions are a component, then supervision of the practical component will be provided. Students will be expected to demonstrate independent initiative in their research and a degree of original input in the project and demonstrate the ability to convey the essence of their research findings in an oral presentation.
