Introduction

In this unit we explore the creation of meaning through the interactions a performer makes with other performers, sites, objects, texts, and contexts. A key focus is building sustained dramatic performance, using effective storytelling to convey ideas and communicate affect through interactions. You will work towards a public showing of studies and scenes based on selected narratives from canonical sources and other texts. You will study the elements of drama and dramatic composition, exploring them through rehearsals, workshops and practical excercises. You will develop key skills required of a performer: spatial and physical awareness, emotional expressiveness and vocal control, critical thinking and interpretation. Most importantly, this unit emphasises working in an ensemble, collaborating respectfully and constructively.
