Courses & Units

Drawing & Printmaking 2A FSD216

Introduction

This unit will explore the ground as both a site for exploration and a support for expression. You will undertake a suite of practical exercises and projects that provide you with methods, concepts and practical skills for generating new ideas and ways of thinking through drawing and printmaking practice. Printmaking is explored as an extension of drawing, where materials and methods go through processes of transformation.

This unit will broaden your capacity to understand and engage with diverse materials, methodologies and processes in drawing and printmaking. Through group and individual tasks, you will develop your ability to experiment with materials, iterative process and idea development.

Artist talks, lectures, class presentations, group discussion and critique will support practical work. These and other class activities encourage positive and productive dialogue within a supportive class culture. Students will be guided through in depth approaches to observation and reflection, connecting their studio-based experiences with contextual knowledge of contemporary art discourse.
