Introduction

This unit provides you with skills in news analysis, writing and production. You will build your understanding of news by examining the practices and texts of news producers and the broader political, social, economic and organisational dynamics impacting on news; by drawing on a range of theories and methods commonly used in media research; and through producing news yourself. At the end of the unit, you should have developed an in-depth understanding of the processes and practices affecting news production and circulation, and be able to research and produce print, audio and/or video news stories for a variety of platforms.
