Introduction

This unit introduces students to the practical skills of strategic communication. It provides students with a strong foundation for participation in the media and communication industries across a variety of media platforms and formats. Students will be introduced to important trends and changes in contemporary media practices, technologies, business models and audience behaviours. A fundamental appreciation of key concepts in media writing will enable students to think strategically about content creation, information gathering and audience engagement; equipping students to write and pitch a story to a relevant media outlet. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how strategic communication can drive change while acquiring important practical skills regarding information management, media engagement and publicity.
