Introduction
This unit will enable students to reflect on, and address the forces of globalisation in their life, work and community. Global flows of knowledge, products, services, workers, investments, tourists and refugees have transformed local identities, ways of life, values and perspectives. This innovative, multi-disciplinary unit will demonstrate how and why globalisation has succeeded and been welcomed, and/or been resisted and even reversed. The unit will weave together three areas. The first is on globalisation theories and how global forces are shaping modern societies. The second evaluates various anti-globalisation movements, and explore the discontents of globalisation. The third addresses cross-border issues in more practical terms, such as managing cross-cultural communication, addressing challenges in doing international business, applying universal moral and ethical values, grasping the impact of global politics in local communities, and understanding the “competitiveness” of nations.” of nations.
