Introduction
This unit is intended as an introduction into a select group of central topics in Indian philosophy. Questions of a very general kind, such as: What is reality? How do we know what we know? Can we trust our judgement of reality? How should we behave in private versus public realms? will allow us to engage with the specific way these questions have been addressed in Indian philosophy. It will also enhance students'ability to draw interesting comparisons with approaches from other traditions. The lectures will engage critically with the philosophical material from two traditions within Indian Philosophy itself, namely the orthodox school (Nyaya-Vaisesika, Samkhya-Yoga, Mimamsaka and Vedanta) and heterodox school (Jainism, Carvaka).
