Environmental Justice, Politics and Policy HPP312
Introduction
This unit takes an environmental justice perspective in introducing students to the dynamics that shape contemporary environmental policy (including green politics) with broad appeal to students of politics and policy, justice studies, environmental studies and science. The roles of politics and the state in delivering environmental justice and policy outcomes are considered with reference to a number of case studies including climate change. The unit also traces in a comparative sense, environmental justice ideas, values and politics from grass roots inception, through to green political platforms and the policy agendas of greens within and supporting governments.

- Explain key conceptual difficulties, theoretical perspectives and debates in the fields of environmental justice, politics and policy.
- Apply relevant theoretical perspectives and debates to real world examples of environmental justice, politics and policy.
- Analyse the complex and dynamic relationships between environmental justice, politics and policy, policy outcomes, and political actors and institutions, at the local, national and/or international levels.
- Communicate your ideas coherently in written and/or oral forms.
