Introduction

Police are expected to be leaders both within their own sphere of command and within their community.  They ensure a safe working environment while building capability, are inclusive, emotionally intelligent and capable of reflective practice. They are required to exercise effective judgement and decision making, be innovative and apply critical thinking to problem solving.  Police leaders contribute to and implement organisational strategy and policy whilst ensuring effective governance practices consistent with business management principles. This unit engages students in the higher order leadership and engagement skills for policing in an increasingly complex social, cultural and economic environment. Students will engage with assignment work grounded in critical reflection and leadership theories in ways that will synthesise their performance and the issues facing police today.
