Introduction
This unit focuses on developing technical and practical knowledge through innovative learning methods. It covers a range of topics relevant to civil litigation practice. For example, you will: assess the merits of a case and identify dispute resolution alternatives; advise on costs of litigation; initiate and respond to claims; take and respond to interlocutory and default proceedings; gather and present evidence; negotiate settlements; and, take action to enforce orders and settlement agreements.

Learning Outcomes
- Assess the merits of a case to advise on relevant rights and remedies, and cost considerations.
- Assemble facts, the elements of a claim and evidence that can be presented according to law and the court’s rules.
- Follow procedures of a court in Tasmania to bring a claim or to make a defence.
- Communicate to a diverse range of audiences by drafting documents, writing letters, and documenting the outcomes of a settlement.
