Workplace and Community Safety PEM103

Introduction

This unit examines the new harmonized national work, health and safety legislation, associated regulations and codes of practice and the roles that police play in their implementation. This includes interventions dealing with dynamic and formal risk assessments including hazard identification, management and emergency response. Particular attention is also placed on (i) accident/incident scene safety, (ii) critical incident stress management and (iii) road-use policing and the role of police in managing vehicle interceptions and pursuits, including the development of appropriate attitudes and skills of officers driving police vehicles to ensure the safety of other road-users and the community.
