Emergency Ambulance Clinical Placement 1 CAA109

This unit is being phased out, no new enrolments are being taken.

Introduction

This is the first emergency ambulance clinical placement, which will provide the student with the opportunity to observe and integrate into the ambulance team culture and environment. The student will be a third member of an emergency ambulance crew moving from being an observer to being able to participate in limited patient care by assisting the ambulance crew members with basic skills which are within their scope of practice, under the direct supervision of a qualified paramedic preceptor.
The student will continue to develop foundation knowledge and clinical assessment techniques within the context of paramedicine, by observing practicing paramedics in the field. Focus of this clinical placement includes: patient assessment, basic medications, patient communication and an overview of the common clinical conditions encountered in the out-of-hospital setting. The principles of manual handling and OH & S critical to paramedic practice will also be considered in the clinical context.
