Introduction
Delivery of health services requires the application of proven interventions. Practitioners in health service areas must be able to evaluate information they receive to make evidence-based decisions in order to justify their care. This unit enables participants to understand the concepts and methods of research so that they will be better able to evaluate evidence and its relevance to their practice and profession.

- Discuss the contribution of medical research to the development of clinical practice guidelines.
- Differentiate between various types of research methodologies commonly used in the healthcare sector and their implications.
- Apply basic search strategies to locate, utilise and reference relevant scientific literature.
- Evaluate, integrate and effectively communicate relevant published research findings.
