Obstetrics and Paediatrics in Paramedic Practice CAA307
Introduction
This unit will build upon previous paramedic studies to develop the students' knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of obstetric and paediatric patients in the out-of-hospital setting. These patient groups have unique anatomical and physiological variances which require special attention in addition to the unique emotional aspects of managing this group of patients.
Skills in managing a normal delivery and the newborn will be covered and the broad range of paediatric clinical challenges in the out-of-hospital setting

- Apply theoretical knowledge in the clinical assessment and management of obstetric and paediatric patients presenting with medical conditions and or traumatic injuries (PPCS: 5, 7)
- Demonstrate the application of clinical skills in the management of obstetric and paediatric patients presenting with medical conditions and/or traumatic injuries (PPCS: 8)
- Analyse and critique the pathophysiology and definitive care relating to obstetric and paediatric patients (PPCS: 2.1)
- Demonstrate effective communication with all stakeholders in a professional manner (PPCS: 4)
- Demonstrate behaviour which mimics paramedic professional practice (PPCS: 1.1, 3)
