Introduction
This unit explores the concepts of professionalism, professional development and the paramedic as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team. Models of service provision and paramedic professionalism will be explored with a focus on the changing health care environment and the paramedic role in primary health care. Foundation public health care concepts will be integrated into paramedic practice.

Learning Outcomes
- Understand the role of a critical and enquiry-based model of professional practice, including the application of reflective and critical analysis of the available evidence
- Understand the role of the paramedic in considering and catering for the health and social care needs of patients and carers in the community
- Demonstrate a capacity to work with members of a healthcare team to achieve common goals using a range of communication techniques and processes
- Understand the evolving nature of the paramedic profession and the professional environment surrounding paramedic practice, including the role of the paramedic in an inter-professional healthcare environment
- Demonstrate a commitment to delivery and evaluation of health care that has the patient and the patient’s family as its central focus
