Note:

Full-time students enrol in CAA401, CAA402, CAA403 and CAA404. Part-time students enrol in one unit per semester, beginning with CAA401. On completion of this unit students receive an IC result The final result is determined on completion of CAA404.

Introduction

This unit of study aims: (a) to provide a year's training in research, in order to give students a competitive edge in their vocational career path; and (b) to provide students with the opportunity to plan, execute, interpret and analyse purposeful experiments, appropriate to their research project, and to communicate their results; and (c) to investigate and communicate analysis and outcomes of contemporary biomedical /health research. Research projects in this unit include the very wide range of techniques required for modern biomedical, health and clinical research from the biochemical or molecular level, through cell biology to whole animal, and human and social community studies. Students considering this unit are advised to discuss with prospective supervisors their research areas and possible projects in detail before enrolment for the year. The Discipline will provide specific details on assessment procedures and criteria used. Students will study alongside colleagues enrolled in the BMedResearch (Hons) and BMedSc (Hons) programs.

No formal lectures. There are a number of workshops and seminars held throughout the year that students are expected to attend.

Assessment
  1. Thesis introduction 10% (The manuscript, excluding the references, must not exceed 6, 000 words)
  2. Journal article critique seminar 10%
  3. Research thesis 60% (The manuscript excluding the abstract, references, acknowledgements and supplementary data must not exceed 30, 000 words)
  4. Research seminar 20%

Note: these tasks are undertaken across the Honours course and are not associated with individual units within the Honours Course. Final grade is recorded in CAA404.
