Introduction
Communities are complex and connected social arrangements of people. In this unit, you will explore the different meanings of community, the diverse mechanisms to work with and for communities, and the processes and principles of community development and engagement. This will specifically involve exploring the role of community-based programs in supporting ‘ageing well’ and social participation for older peoples and ageing populations. In addition, you will learn and appreciate the importance of citizen informed and driven participatory methods to foster ageing well. The knowledge developed through this unit will give you the skills to become an agent of change in developing and building meaningful and inclusive community relationships that foster community empowerment for older peoples and ageing populations.

- Explain and evaluate inclusive and participatory strategies for community engagement, particularly for ageing and wellbeing
- Apply community development and engagement principles to examine community-based programs and initiatives
- Develop a community engagement plan focused on the wellbeing of older peoples and/or ageing populations
