Public Health and Dementia 1 CAD504

Introduction

This unit examines the evidence base for, and the potential impact of, public health interventions aimed at (1) reducing the incidence of dementia in the general population, and (2) improving quality of life for those living with dementia. The large scale impact of dementia on societies, both current and forecast, is surveyed, and used to inform an evaluation of effective public health strategies designed to reduce this impact. Strategies investigated include dementia risk reduction efforts, improving dementia awareness and understanding, and making communities and environments more dementia friendly. Students are assessed in a variety of formats to develop communication skills in the public health context.
