Environmental Management and Protection CAM544

Introduction

This unit develops knowledge and skills relating to sustainability; land use planning including health impact assessment (HIA) and environmental impact assessment (EIA); air, water and environmental noise pollution; contaminated land; waste management; and environmental management systems (EMS). Contemporary environmental protection and management issues are also explored in the context of potentially polluting industries.

  • Assess the environmental health impacts of proposed development and describe environmental and health impact assessment processes.
  • Apply knowledge of sustainable development principles in built environment, land use and other environment development applications.
  • Apply environmental management strategies to manage risks associated with contaminated land use, hazardous substance exposures, pollutants and water and waste management.
  • Apply management planning, implementation and communication skills and knowledge in environmental management and protection practice contexts.
