This unit explores the concepts of mental health well-being and dementia care. The content of this unit is informed by expert practitioners, including the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, to ensure you will study current and supportive approaches to care. You will develop proficiency in differentiating the three 'D's' of dementia, delirium and depression, and managing Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). A key focus will be on enabling service- design that considers each person as an individual, as well as a product of their country, religion, ethnic background, language, and family system.

- Apply your knowledge of pathophysiology to the assessment of dementia and mental health in older adults.
- Critically appraise your own and current concepts of mental health wellbeing in the older adult.
- Analyse philosophies and practice to support the older person with BPSD.
- Demonstrate your understanding of service-design models for BPSD through your critical evaluation of existing designs and your ability to design a service that considers each person as an individual, as well as a product of their country, religion, ethnic background, language, and family system.
- Demonstrate an ability to transmit your knowledge and ideas to others using professional language.
