Introduction
This unit introduces theories underpinning the complex needs of the person requiring rehabilitation nursing. Through exploration of the literature, students will explore rehabilitation theories incorporating theories of disability, epidemiology and rehabilitation principles to guide development of the rehabilitation nurse.

Learning Outcomes
- Engage critically with the literature that addresses approaches to and theories about rehabilitation nursing
- Analyse contemporary literature and engage with theories of disability and chronic illness such as resilience, self-determination, function and the wellness model
- Articulate the role of the rehabilitation nurse within the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary rehabilitation team
