Introduction
This subject addresses the principles of renal nursing incorporating the psychological, ethical and sociological domains of health. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to facilitate the patient's adaptation to renal dysfunction and promote the patient's self concept and quality of life. Concepts of health promotion and health education underpin this unit.

Learning Outcomes
- Integrate concepts of health promotion into nephrology nursing practice to facilitate adoption of self-management strategies by clients and the wider community.
- Critically discuss the politics of health within professional nephrology nursing practice and its current and potential impact on the community and nephrology client outcomes.
