Note:

0.5 FTE per fortnight of clinical practice in a health care agency for 20 weeks

Introduction

This unit provides you with an opportunity to examine the midwife's responsibility to provide safe care during complex labour, birth and the postpartum period. The unit builds upon CNA689 in that it considers at-risk and complex situations which may endanger the health of the woman and/or her foetus/neonate. Studies will include initiating emergency care and assisting in the stabilising of a sick woman and/or her neonate as well as examining related social issues. Emphasis is on working with women holistically in complex situations, developing appropriate referral skills, and working collaboratively with other members of the health care team to enhance the outcomes for the woman and her family.
