This unit is available for registered midwives wishing to upgrade their qualifications to a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery.
Introduction
This unit is directed at currently practising midwives and examines a broad range of contemporary issues that impact on midwifery and women across the childbearing year. These are explored in the context of society's expectations and the political and social forces that shape professional midwifery practice. This unit is one of four units that are undertaken by registered midwives to upgrade to a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery. It contributes to knowledge, skills and attributes required for contemporary midwifery practice based on the NMBA national Competency Standards for the Midwife (2006).
