Foundations of Perioperative Nursing Theory CNA756
Students are expected to have employment or a student placement in an operating room or anaesthetic and recovery environment. This unit uses group work and late enrolment may affect your ability to participate actively.
Introduction
This unit explores the principles of perioperative nursing. The content of this unit will include ethical and legal issues related to perioperative nursing, professional issues, infection control, and operating suite planning. Applied anatomy, pathophysiology and surgical techniques for general surgery are also included.

Learning Outcomes
- Analyse and apply principles of ethics and law to the perioperative environment.
- Interpret and apply theories of asepsis, human factors and patient safety related to the perioperative environment.
- Apply concepts of anatomy and pathophysiology to patient management during pre- operative, intra-operative and post-operative phases of general surgery and endoscopic procedures.
