Professional Experience Placement (PEP)To be eligible to undertake PEP; all students must be 'Verified' as meeting College of Health and Medicine PEP Safety in Practice Compliance as per the Course Entry Requirements. Students who cannot or do not comply with these requirements will not be allocated PEP and therefore will not be able to complete this unit.
Introduction
Professional Practicum 2 is the second practicum unit for this course. This unit will provide you with an opportunity to observe and practice the application of psychology in a structured and supervised setting/s. The practicum will promote a scientist-practitioner model of the professional psychologist with opportunities to develop competencies and increase level of independence. You will be expected to consider therapeutic issues and apply techniques while on field placement. This will be reflected in your interaction with clients, standard of case formulations, and demonstrated understanding of assessment and the therapeutic process. At the end of this Unit you will have developed the competencies necessary for undertaking an Internship program with the Psychology Board of Australia following graduation.

Learning Outcomes
- apply a scientist practitioner model of practice to a small range of client presentations to develop case formulations, conduct risk assessments, make diagnoses and develop treatment plans
- apply counselling skills and evidence based therapeutic techniques for common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression
- select, administer, score and interpret a range of psychometric tests and questionnaires to prepare professional reports and provide verbal feedback to families and relevant professionals
- apply relevant legislation and ethical and professional practice guidelines to make clinical decisions about ethical dilemmas in practice
- critically reflect on your own client work through engagement in the supervision process to become a reflective practitioner
