Introduction
The unit introduces civil and mechanical engineering students to the engineering properties of materials and manufacturing processes. It aims to develop a basic understanding of the properties of engineering materials, including metals, metal alloys and non-metallic materials.

Learning Outcomes
- Apply chemistry principles to the understanding of materials and their mechanical engineering properties
- Determine the mechanical properties of materials by using standard test procedures
- Evaluate the mechanical properties of materials on the basis of their micro and macro structures/for specific civil or mechanical engineering applications
