This unit provides students with knowledge and skills required to analyse and design marine thermo-fluid engineering equipment. A problem-based learning approach is used through two design projects to provide real engineering design tasks. Students are introduced to individual component design criteria and the relevant classification society design rules. It builds on the knowledge gained in Thermal Engineering, Fluid Mechanics and Marine Thermal Energy Systems.

- Explain the design features and practical constraints of marine machinery,
- Apply the national and international classification and statutory regulations in the design of marine machinery components and systems.
- Recognise and evaluate the performance and technical specifications of marine machinery.
