Fishing Industry and Operations JFA507
Introduction
This unit provides the student with a broad overview of the human system of fisheries and an understanding of both the harvest and post-harvest sectors of the fishing industry. On completion of this unit, students will be able to: describe the components of the fishing industry, explain the capture process of the major fishing gears and methods used to harvest fisheries resources in Australia and globally; assess the factors that influence the design and performance of fishing operations; outline preservation and processing methods used to produce quality seafood and introduce distribution and marketing strategies to supply seafood to consumers.
