Introduction
On successful completion of this unit, you will understand the role of the master of a ship from a commercial and legal stand point. This includes the master's responsibilities and authority. Furthermore you will be knowledgeable about laws such as the STCW and SOLAS. You will also cover the master's liability.
This unit meets the relevant learning outcomes set out in Table A -II/2 of STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments) and detailed in the Maritime Training Package MAR50415.
