Courses & Units

Surveying 2 KGG220

Students are required to purchase a scientific programmable calculator or phone App (e.g. HP50g) and associated Quickclose computational programs for this unit. Purchasing options will be outlined in week 1.

Introduction

KGG220 continues from KGG255, developing a broader knowledge relating to the use and application of precise instrumentation and measurement methodologies in the fields of spatial information sciences and surveying. This unit develops students' skills in using optical levels and electronic total stations and provides experience in a range of precision survey techniques using these instruments. Survey methodologies, instrument calibration and computational requirements for precise levelling, trigonometric heighting, resection, traversing and detail surveying are examined both in lectures and in practical experiences. Students will use hand-held calculators (HP50g) and Neo software to reduce field observations and create survey plans from their practical work. The unit will also introduce students to the concepts and methodologies required to present and interpret survey data referenced to the Map Grid of Australia (MGA).

Note

Please check that your computer meets the minimum System Requirements if you are attending via Distance/Off-Campus.

Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
