Land Law and Cadastral Studies KGG506
Introduction
The Land Law component of this unit teaches the principles and application of land law as it applies to legal surveys. Topics include land tenure, estates in land, freehold and leasehold tenure, interests in land, easements and profits, mortgages, erosion, riparian rights, land transfer, common law and real property, adverse possession, law relating to surveys of land for the purposes of title subdivision and resumption of land, and the general principles of the law of evidence.
The Cadastral Studies component covers cadastral systems, the role of cadastral systems in land management and land administration, cadastral reform and the concept of spatial data infrastructure. This unit is a core component of the educational requirements of the Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation Board.
