The objective of this unit is for students to experience the application of information technology in meeting business needs by integrating theoretical knowledge with the practical applications and experiences in a real environment. Students will be given the opportunity to complete business tasks, participate in work teams, comply with the norms and rules of the business, recognise personal strengths and weaknesses particularly after feedback from supervisors, cooperate within groups, and adopt and practise professional ethics that influence work behaviour.

Students are on placement work in a defined role during a minimum 6-week placement period with identified and registered sponsors. In this unit students will have the opportunity to experience areas of their chosen profession before graduation and to reflect on how their studies have prepared them for the work environment. This will give students the opportunity to plan on how to best take advantage of their remaining studies to prepare for their planned career.

The students are able to develop their communication, time management and customer service skills in business situations, experience the corporate environment and obtain feedback from supervisors on their performance. Students will develop a richer appreciation of the graduate capabilities required of all ICT professionals, particularly skills such as communication, negotiation and problem-solving strategies.
