Introduction
This unit provides students with advanced knowledge of the reproductive system of agricultural animals, nutritional requirements and general health management. Students will be expected to be able to handle and interact with domesticated agricultural animals. An important aspect of this unit is the opportunity for students to develop an awareness of animal ethics and the major animal welfare topics currently debated within agriculture. Students are given the opportunity to develop their practical skills with practical classes, and their technical skills in tutorials for each of the topics covered. During the course students will be led on at least one excursion to a commercial agricultural property, enabling the students to apply theoretical principles in a practical setting. The agricultural industry will be examined from the perspective of ethics, animal health reproduction and nutrition.

- apply the principles of low-stress stock handling to practical on-farm situations such as interacting with production animals and the design of animal handling facilities

- explain animal management programs and techniques using your knowledge of digestive physiology, reproduction, genetics, health and disease, and biosecurity.
