Join the Library

Alumni

The University of Tasmania Library offers alumni members Library borrower membership free of charge.

To join:

Complete the online application form (PDF 100KB) ensuring that you:

  • Print and sign your completed application form
  • Bring your completed application form to any UTAS Library, or email scanned copy to Loans@lib.utas.edu.au
  • When you are registering we will set you up with a Library PIN so that you can request and manage your loans
  • Cost: No fee charged

Alumni Borrowers can:

  • Request items and borrow from any UTAS Library (Tasmanian based Alumni only)
  • Request a scan of a chapter, extract or article from a print item
  • Access some electronic resources when off campus and a wider range of resources when visiting the Library in person
  • Access the library Monday to Friday from 8:45am til 5:00pm

Alumni Borrowers can't:

  • Borrow 2 hour and 24 hour Reserve items
  • Access Document Delivery Service or the Flexible Library Service
  • Access the internet and printing through the UTAS network

When visiting the Library

  • you need to be fully vaccinated, or have an authorised medial exemption, to enter and access any Library building or study space
  • have your proof of vaccination readily available if asked to provide evidence
  • complete a temperature check at the Health Screening Station
  • check-in with the Check In TAS app and QR code before entering
  • masks must be carried at all times and worn as per current advice from the Tasmanian government, and
  • maintain 1.5 metre physical distancing

Conditions

By registering and signing your Borrower card you:

  • Accept responsibility for any costs for replacing or repairing library items lost or damaged by you
  • Agree to advise us if you change your address
  • Agree to advise us of any change in circumstances to those that allowed your membership

Public use of the University of Tasmania Library

  • Members of the public are welcome to visit our libraries during opening hours
  • You are welcome to view our print resources within the Library
  • Some electronic resources are accessible when visiting the Library in person
  • If you would like to borrow you can join as a General Public Borrower

To Join

  • TasTAFE Visual Arts students studying Art Craft and Design courses at Hunter Street Campus, complete this web form for your University of Tasmania/TasTAFE ID card. You will be notified by email when your card is ready to be picked up from the Morris Miller Library (Sandy Bay Campus) or MidCity Student Centre.

General Public Borrowers can:

  • Request items and borrow from any UTAS Library
  • Request a scan of a chapter, extract or article from a print item
  • Access some electronic resources when visiting the Library in person
  • Access the library Monday to Friday from 8:45am - 5:00pm

  • Access electronic resources off campus

The University of Tasmania Library offers Staff of the Royal Hobart Hospital Library Borrower membership.

To Join

Complete the online application form (PDF 100KB) ensuring that you:

  • Print and sign your completed form
  • Bring the application form to any UTAS Library, or email scanned copy with supporting documentation to Clin.Reference@utas.edu.au
  • Provide supporting documentation - Photo ID & evidence of current address and proof of current employment with RHH
  • When you are registering we will set you up with a Library PIN so that you can request and manage your loans
  • Cost: No fee charged

School - Year 11 & 12 - Step Up

Step Up is a University of Tasmania Library program for Tasmanian Year 11 and 12 students.  The Step Up program provides an introduction for school students to the University environment and is offered in partnership with Tasmanian Schools.

Note: If you are a Year 11/12 student who is already enrolled in the UTAS College Program, then you will already have access to the UTAS Library and therefore do not need to sign up for the Step Up Program.

To join

Students affiliated with a partner school are welcome to join as a Step Up Borrower for free.

Complete the application form (PDF 100KB) ensuring that you:

  • Provide your school email address (not hotmail, gmail, yahoo etc)
  • Nominate a four digit Library PIN
  • Print and sign your completed form, and have it authorised by your School Librarian
  • Your School Librarian will scan and email your application to the UTAS Library
  • Cost: No fee charged

Note to School Librarians:  Please email group or multiple registrations 5 working days in advance of students coming to use the Library.

Step Up Borrowers can:

  • Request items to borrow from any UTAS Library
  • Use current School ID card to borrow items from any UTAS Library
  • Request a scan of a chapter, extract or article from a print item
  • Access some electronic resources when visiting the Library in person
  • Access the library Monday to Friday from 8:45am til 5:00pm
  • Access an online Library Guides
  • Get help from UTAS Library staff

Step Up Borrowers can't:

  • Access electronic resources off campus
  • Borrow 2 hour and 24 hour Reserve items
  • Access Document Delivery Service or the Flexible Library Service
  • Access the internet and printing through the UTAS network

Students & Staff of other Universities

University of Tasmania Library borrower membership is available to current staff and students from universities who participate in the following reciprocal borrowing program. This membership is free and eligibility criteria apply.

List of participating universities

Students of Universities not participating in ULANZ are welcome to join as a member of the General Public .

Open University students enrolled at other universities may join as a member of the general public.

Members within Tasmania of - University of the Third Age (U3A) are welcome to join as a member of the General Public.
