About the research project

Global collapse is one of the most compelling and controversial ideas of our times. Uneven and intersecting impacts of issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, energy and food insecurity, resource limitations, conflict, inequity, and inequality are leading to an up swell of interest and debate around this complex notion.
In this project, you will design your own research focus that sits within the emerging field of critical collapse studies. This field takes its impetus from critical enquiry – a leftist, intellectual concern with power and inequity in the context of everyday life. Research in this area foregrounds socio-ecological theory, equitable change, and emancipatory politics in the context of global collapse.
For example, you may analyse the discourses and practices of collapse evident in areas like climate science, insurance, activism, or social media. You could develop strategies for addressing inequity at various scales in the context of diminishing resources or you may be interested in critically examining unfolding geographies and politics of collapse.
