Bicycle parking and facilities

The University provides amenities such as bike storage racks, personal lockers, water refill stations, showers and charging outlets at our campuses which students and staff can make the most of.

Bike storage and end-of-trip facilities

  • Walking, cycling or riding an E-scooter to campus can benefit your health and the environment while saving time and money.
  • Individual, secure bicycle lockers are available for use on our Sandy Bay and Newnham campuses – you'll need to provide your own locks, and lockers must be vacated at the end of each semester.
  • E-scooters are welcome on all our campuses; however, please observe the no ride zone signage in designated areas.
  • For safety, charging of E-scooters and E-Bikes is not permitted inside any University building.
  • Decide Your Ride is a series of bicycling videos for those interested but unsure about bicycling to and between our campuses.

Things to remember when bringing your bike onto campus

  • Please only park in designated bicycle racks or lockers (bicycles attached to trees, handrails, signposts or fixtures on access ramps can and may be removed by University security).
  • Bicycles or bike locks left on campus for long periods of time will be considered abandoned and may be removed.
  • Enquiries relating to abandoned, removed or stolen bicycles should be directed to University Security.
  • Police recommend that bicycles are secured with a good quality bike lock. Cable locks and chains are less secure than U-shaped steel locks. Please ensure you take your lock with you when collecting your bike.
  • The roads on and around University campuses and sites are public roads and public road rules apply. This includes the requirement to wear a helmet and comply with speed limits on University roads.
  • You must dismount when taking your bike along walkways on campus.
  • E-Bike charging is not permitted inside University buildings.

Security, damage or theft

  • To ensure bicycle parking areas remain safe for everyone, we ask that secure facilities – those with swipe access or manual locks – are always kept closed when not in use. Please don’t leave them open or allow unauthorised access. This helps us protect everyone’s property, and penalties may apply for misuse.
  • While we do our best to provide secure facilities, the University is unable to take responsibility for any damage or theft of property – cyclists bring bikes and gear to campus at their own risk. Thanks for helping us keep our bike storage spaces safe for our community.
