A number of operators provide inter-city, regional and suburban public bus transport services in Tasmania, including:
As a cost-of-living relief initiative, the Tasmanian Government is now supporting free travel on all public transport statewide, including Metro, regional and rural buses, and Derwent River Ferries, for all Tasmanians until 30 June 2027.
The information provided below regarding Metro travel fares will apply after this period.

Connects Hobart’s CBD, Sandy Bay and Taroona
- Hobart CBD Interchange (Elizabeth Street) - Sandy Bay
- Hobart CBD Interchange (Macquarie Street) - Stop 31 Taroona
Operates between University Queens Walk (Newnham) and Kings Meadows
*The free Metro travel offer excludes weekends and public holidays.
Casual car hire - Flexicar (South only)
Flexicar is a car hire service available to University of Tasmania students and staff, which can be booked by the hour or day. Joining Flexicar is free on the UTAS student rate plan*. Flexicars are located in Hobart City (Hobart Apartments car park, ground level) and Sandy Bay (Main car park, near Humanities).
