Alumni recognised in King’s Birthday Honours

Eleven University of Tasmania alumni have been awarded King’s Birthday Honours this year. We congratulate the following 2024 recipients on their achievements:

  • Professor Asha Bowen OAM BA ’98 for service to medicine in the field of clinical diseases
  • Ms Mary-Ann Brown OAM BEc ’77 for service to local government, and to the communities of Dunkeld and Hamilton
  • Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Combridge APM BAProfHons(Specialisation) ’22 Australian Police Medal
  • Detective Inspector George Cretu APM GradCertPoliceSt ’02 Australian Police Medal
  • Inspector William Duncan APM BAProfHons(Specialisation) ’19 Australian Police Medal
  • Mr Philip Harrison AM GradCertEdStud ’95 for significant service to youth, and to outdoor and environmental education
  • Ms Carolyn Ingvarson OAM BA ’64 for service to conservation, and to the community of Boroondara
  • Associate Professor Christine Jeffries AM BMedSc ’83 MBBS ‘86 for significant service as a pediatrician, to rural and remote medicine, and to the Indigenous community
  • Professor Brett McDermott AM BMedSc '81, MBBS '84, MD '05 for significant service to medicine in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry
  • Ms Joanne Miles ASM DipDemCare ’20 Ambulance Service Medal
  • Ms Caroline Sharpen OAM BMus(Hons) ’96 GradDipMus ’98 for service to the performing arts through leadership roles
