For Tiruni Nilundika Amarasinghe Arachchige, enrolling in the Master of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Tasmania was a purposeful step towards advancing her career in medical science.

“The program’s strong reputation and hands-on placement opportunities in accredited Australian laboratories made it a clear choice,” Tiruni said.

Studying at the Launceston campus, she found the course structure aligned seamlessly with both national and international standards.

What surprised her most was the depth of support from academic staff and the exposure to advanced laboratory techniques.

And, among the many highlights of the course, Tiruni pointed to the integrated laboratory medicine unit and the professional placement component as particularly valuable.

“The placements with leading industry employers exceeded my expectations,” she said. “It was a real-world extension of everything we learned in class.”

“The balance between theory and practice, especially through clinical case studies and critical thinking exercises, helped me develop both technical skills and professional confidence.”

Her placement experience proved transformative, offering hands-on exposure across major departments and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

“Working alongside experienced lab staff gave me insights that textbooks simply can’t offer. It also expanded my professional network, which will be instrumental as I pursue advanced roles in the field.”
