Professor Bruce Taylor, a leading neurologist and Academic Lead of the MS Research Flagship at Menzies Institute for Medical Research, has been named co-recipient of MS Australia’s prestigious 2025 MS Research Award. The award recognises his more than 25 years of leadership in advancing MS research and improving outcomes for people living with the condition.
The MS Research Award celebrates researchers who have made significant contributions to understanding MS and developing better treatments, preventions or cures. Professor Taylor’s work has shaped global knowledge of MS prevalence, epidemiology, genetics, biomarkers and disease progression. His research has informed earlier diagnosis and improved everyday clinical care for people living with MS.
Professor Taylor is also a key contributor to the internationally recognised Understanding MS online course, which has helped tens of thousands of people deepen their understanding of MS and its impacts.
Reflecting on the honour, Professor Taylor said:
“What we do in MS research is only possible because we work together, and none of our work happens in a silo. Collaboration has driven every step forward, and that makes the work incredibly rewarding.”
He also acknowledged the vital role of MS Australia in supporting progress:
“When I speak with colleagues overseas, they are often amazed at the level of engagement and support we receive from MS Australia. It means we can keep making progress and improving outcomes for people living with MS.”
Professor Taylor shares the 2025 MS Research Award with Professor Helmut Butzkueven from Monash University and Alfred Health.
