About the program

Feed Your Mind, Feed the World (FYM) is a free three-day camp for Year 11 and 12 students who are curious about where agriculture could take them.

Held in North West Tasmania, this is your chance to get out of the classroom and experience the industry firsthand. You will visit real farms and research sites, meet the people working in agriculture right now, and see how science, technology and innovation are driving one of the most important and fast-changing industries in the world.

Tasmania is known for its high-quality food and strong agricultural industry, and this camp gives you a behind-the-scenes look at why it matters, not just locally but globally. You will also hear directly from University of Tasmania staff about what studying agriculture is really like and where it can lead.

If you are starting to think about life after school, this is a great way to explore your options. The University of Tasmania now offers two pathways, the Bachelor of Agricultural Science and the Bachelor of Agriculture and Agribusiness, giving you the flexibility to focus on hands-on science, innovation, or the business side of the industry. Agriculture is changing fast. It is driven by technology, sustainability, and new ideas, and it needs people who want to make a real impact. This camp is your chance to see if it is the right fit for you.

*The program is free to attend; however, travel to and from is not covered. Interstate students may be eligible for up to $400 towards flights. See Transport FAQ for details.

FAQs:

Students who are currently in year 11 and year 12, Australia wide.

Transport

  • For Tasmanian students, transport to/from Hobart, Launceston, Burnie, and Devonport will be provided. Other pick up and drop off locations may be possible and will be discussed on an individual student basis.
  • If you are an interstate student, you will need to arrange and cover the cost of your flights and transport to and from your home airport. However, we’re pleased to offer travel support to a select number of interstate students, with up to 12 places available. If eligible, you could receive up to $400 towards your flight costs. Final details and eligibility criteria will be available in June 2026, and terms and conditions will apply. Once successful applicants are announced, we will contact you and your parents with specific recommendations for arrival locations and times, and explain the support available to you upon arrival in Tasmania.
  • A bus will be used to transport all students during the camp.

Accommodation

Meals

  • All meals will be provided during the camp – dietaries can be catered for.

Your application will primarily be assessed based on your written response explaining why you want to take part in the FYM camp.
