Introduction
In this introductory unit you will develop understanding of what it means to be a professional, ethical, scholarly teacher in Tasmania, Australia and global educational contexts. Through scholarly engagement with research and professional literature, structured discussions with peers and academics, and critical self-reflective inquiry, you will build the foundational knowledge required to support the empowerment of your future students. You will consider education from social equity and sustainability perspectives. You will examine current tensions in education associated with curriculum, digital technologies, inclusion, the role of the teacher and government priorities. As a professional, you will make judgements within curricular, legal, policy, and ethical frameworks that inform and regulate teaching practice: through research-informed engagement with case studies and reflection on your own beliefs and values, you will gain insight into how these factors shape your identity as a teacher.
