Primary Mathematics Curriculum and Pedagogy unit (EMT509)

Introduction

In this unit you will develop a sound understanding of the principles and content of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics for primary years learning, as well as an understanding of Numeracy as it is described in the curriculum. You will learn key pedagogical approaches to teaching the content strands of number, algebra, measurement, space, statistics, and probability, as well as mathematical proficiency and processes. You will learn about critical mathematical concepts, how these are developed across the curriculum, student understanding of critical mathematical ideas, and key pedagogical approaches for teaching mathematics effectively. You will participate in practical activities that focus on mathematics and its teaching, develop effective pedagogical practices, build knowledge of how student understanding of mathematics develops, and make effective decisions in planning, implementing, and assessing mathematics learning.
